Contractor Membership
SMACNA-Western Washington contractor members are HVAC-sheet metal contracting companies signatory to a bargaining agreement with the Sheet Metal Workers International (SMWIA) - Local Union 66. SMACNA contractors are engaged in the fabricating, manufacturing and / or installing of sheet metal products.
A brief listing of the services and programs available to contractor member firms is listed below.
A. Quarterly Membership Meetings
SMACNA’s quarterly meetings begin with a late afternoon program selected especially for SMACNA members. Programs are specifically selected to be both entertaining and educational weighing the industries technical needs with their general business and communication needs. The program is followed by a membership reception and dinner. The meetings offer opportunities for affiliate and contractor members to network in a relaxed atmosphere.
SMACNA-Western Washington hosts the reception and dinner for four representatives from each contractor member company; additional company representatives are welcome to attend for the cost of the dinner.
B. Educational and Safety Programs
SMACNA contractor members are invited to attend numerous management and supervisory programs each year as well as programs that are provided by the industry fund. These complimentary educational opportunities may be technical, safety or a variety of topical programs that assist the contractor and their employees to gain valuable knowledge that allows them to provide a high quality product to the customer.
C. Contract and Labor Negotiations
SMACNA provides full labor relations and collective bargaining representation on behalf of its members. Through the collective bargaining process, the Association addresses many critical human resource issues as well, including provisions for top-notch health and pension benefits, vacation and holiday savings, as well as one of the most well-respected training programs in the construction industry. Western Washington also provides representation and advice to its employers in grievance and arbitration matters.
E. Annual Golf Tournament
SMACNA’s Golf Tournament is a top notch event that both the duffers and pros among us look forward to each year. Many member companies utilize this opportunity to market their company through the various sponsorship opportunities, as well as play golf with their favorite customer.
F. Annual Christmas Program
Held in early December, SMACNA’s Holiday Gala & Annual Program serves as the debut of the holiday season and has an attendance of nearly 200 guests. This formal holiday party takes on a life of its own including a high-spirited theme. SMACNA-Western Washington hosts the reception and dinner for two couples from each member company; additional company representatives are welcome to attend for an additional cost.
G. Annual Crab Feed
One of SMACNA-Western Washington’s oldest traditions… members from across the Puget Sound meet in Aberdeen, WA for all-you-can-eat crab, fresh from the bay. It’s a much anticipated event for 200 plus guests every year.
H. The Membership Roster, Newsletter and National Publications
Contractor members are listed in SMACNA-Western Washington’s Membership Roster which is circulated to industry professionals as well as listed on the SMACNA website. All members receive Through the Duct, the SMACNA-Western Washington newsletter.
Technical standards and manuals, developed by SMACNA Contractors have found worldwide acceptance by the construction community, and are accredited by ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, as a standards-setting organization, are available at the member discount price.
